Reciprocal Roof
Om Sleiman Farm
Location: Om Sleiman Farm – Bil’in (Palestine)
Roof diameter: 9m
Year: 2022
We went to Palestine to help build this round structure with a reciprocal roof made of recycled telephone posts. After completion the building will be used to host workshops.
To form a reciprocal roof, rafters are arranged in a circle so that each one rests on the previous one. The last rafter fits underneath the first and the whole structure interlocks without a central support. This leaves a circular opening at the center creating a skylight. The roof is then covered with a secondary structure, a rigid cover and a waterproofing membrane.
